They met at college studying journalism. He came from a much wealthier family than she did, but his family welcomed her when they started going out together. Eventually, after graduating they decided to get married. The wedding day was happy, lots of photos and the young people danced and got drunk. The next morning, after the wedding night he was gone. A few days after he disappeared she learnt from his family that he was okay, he hadn’t been killed or abducted. They made up some story about how he had to travel to the south of the country for a job. She never saw him again.
As luck would have it, if that is the right phrase, she became pregnant after the wedding night, the one and only night that they ever slept together. Her daughter was born, and she worked as a cleaner to support them both. Her daughter grew up, graduated from school and decided to study dance at the national institute. The daughter was full of life and energy and nothing seemed to be able to stop her. While at the dance school, she found out about a scholarship to study in Switzerland, applied and was granted it. In Switzerland she worked and studied, saved money, met a Swiss boy and planned to get married. When she had saved enough money, she brought her mother to Switzerland and France for a holiday. On another trip they went together to Martinique.
At some point she decided that she wanted to meet her father and demand his explanation about why he disappeared after exactly one night of marriage. She found out where he was working as a lawyer and waited for him outside of the office. When he came out she approached him and introduced herself and said simply “I am your daughter” . We never found out what he told her, how he explained himself, but it must have been good, because they continued to meet afterwards and I believe she even invited him to her wedding in Switzerland. He was obviously proud of her, the person she was and all she had achieved and he used to tell everybody about his daughter living in Europe.
What happened to her afterwards, we don't know.
